Welcome to Chandu K Patel Site!
Welcome to the site of Chandu K. Patel, popularly known as “CK”, who is a visionary beacon, a socio-political powerhouse and a hotel magnate in the US. He was born and brought up in India but moved to the United States in 1974 to do his MBA in Industrial Management. While doing his studies in the US, he developed a keen interest in the hospitality business and ended up being a hotel tycoon who has made millions in the business. He is recognized as a highly successful and widely respected hotelier having built, owned and operated several hotels in California including an acclaimed Hilton Hotel Resort in upscale Dana Point which leading Indian publication and media has hailed as the first ever Hilton built by any Indian anywhere in the world. Henceforth, many hotels were built in the posh areas of Los Angeles like Beverly Hills near world famous Rodeo Drive, serene Spanish village San Clemente and The Surf City, Huntington Beach.
Besides owning hotels and real estate businesses, CK strongly feels for Mother Nature also. He has a deep concern about global warming issue and wants to contribute his part towards worldwide efforts of restoring the earth’s climate and preserving our natural resources. He recently formed Greenport Energy Park (GEP), LLC for the purchase of a 1,309 acres waterfront industrial park site which is located in the Greater San Francisco Bay Region of California, less than 12 nautical miles from the world famous Golden Gate Bridge. The GEP site enjoys 3.5 miles of waterfront on the California Trade Corridor on the SF Bay deep sea channel system connecting shipping lines into the central California’s Sacramento and Stockton deep sea ports as well as providing shipping and barging access to the greater SF Bay region and the Pacific Ocean International shipping. CK aims to develop a host of “green” projects on this property which in turn will go a long way in helping curb the global warming and other environmental pollutions.
Besides being a hotel tycoon, CK is also deeply involved in socio-political activities. His political acumen has awarded him with many once-in-a-lifetime achievements such as: He was invited to one of the most spectacular patriotic events ever held in Washington D.C.; “The 1993 Presidents’ Dinner: a Salute to Republican Presidents”. This dinner was hosted to honor George Bush, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon in celebration of the vision, leadership and courage of these four of the greatest Presidents of the United States. CK was nominated by Senator Bob Dole, a majority leader in US Senate, to the Chairman, Advisory Board of the Republican National Committee in August 1995. He was also invited by Senator Bill Frist on September 25, 2002 to the Republican Senatorial Dinner featuring George W Bush. Furthermore, CK was also invited by Senator Elizabeth Dole and Senator George Allen, Chairman, National Republican Senatorial Committee to the Senate Majority celebration on September 29, 2004.
CK is the recipient of much coveted Republican Presidential Award and he is also listed in the Who’s Who of the Republican Party. He is perhaps the only Indian in the US to have been invited to the Presidential Inaugurations of the last four Presidents in the recent history. CK is a passionate community leader who is always at the forefront of taking up issues concerning India and Indian Americans to the Congress and the White House, fighting India-bashing bills in Congress and leading efforts at educating the members of the Congress about issues concerning India-US relations. He worked tirelessly for the fruition of the US-India nuclear deal going from door to door for the support.
CK has also organized many welcome receptions for Indian politicians and dignitaries such as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Sushma Swaraj, L.K. Advani, I.K. Gujral, former Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan, former Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Narendra Modi, Indian Overseas Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi, Amar Singh and many others. He has also arranged a luncheon for India Caucus in the White House during Mrs. Sonia Gandhi’s visit to the USA along with Dr. Manmohan Singh and Natwar Singh in July 2001, before Dr. Manmohan Singh became Prime Minister of India.
At the national level, currently, he is President of NFIA (National Federation of Indian-American Associations). NFIA is an umbrella organization of over 250 Indian associations representing more than 2.7 million Indian Americans. NFIA takes up socio-economic issues concerning Indians living anywhere in the US. In California, he is the Founder and Chairman of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and the NavGujarat Society; and the past President and Chairman of the Federation of Indian-American Associations (FIA) of Southern California. At the global level, he is the Chairman of the International Business Liaison Committee of Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) that represents millions of Indians all over the world. In the past, he was also the Co-Chairman of the Business Council of the GOPIO.
CK has been invited as a guest speaker in the prestigious Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) and Gujarat Chamber of Commerce in India; and many other such associations in the US as well.
CK is a strong believer in Gandhian way of life and always advocates that this is the only solution to the worldwide problem of violence and terrorism. Just by bringing this philosophy in our lives, many problems can be eliminated from the society. He has been spreading awareness about Gandhi’s non-violence ways in the US in many ways such as;
- He was part of the congregation of Sonia Gandhi’s visit to the United Nations for passing of 2nd of October as International Day of Non-Violence.
- His persistent approach through his known congressmen Ed Royce, Jim McDermott, Joe Wilson, Gus Bilirakis, and Don Manzullo resulted in introduction of a resolution (No.603) in the House of Representatives on June 26th 2009, sponsored by Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, to commemorate the 140th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, which is a matter of great pride for all Indians in the US.
- Installation of a life size statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the City of Bellevue in Seattle, Washington in October 2009 during CK’s Presidency of NFIA. This is in addition to the 1st ever Gandhi’s statue installation in the US on the Federal Land in the City of Atlanta, Georgia which is placed right next to the statue of Dr. Martin Luther King.
- CK has planned a “World Peace Conference” in October 2010 at Sabarmati, Gandhi Ashram, Ahmedabad, India. He said that “world peace can only be achieved by following Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence”.
